CHARLES HOLM PARK

Public BBQ

Charles Holm Park sits prettily alongside the water at Hope Island, though it's a spot that reveals its quirks the moment you arrive. The waterfront location is undeniably lovely, with the boat ramp providing easy access for those heading to South Stradbroke Island or Tipplers. The covered picnic tables offer respite from Queensland's sun, and there's ample grassy space for a proper kick of the footy or shooting hoops on the basketball court. The playground keeps the kids entertained while adults can try their luck fishing along the park's edge, watching the parade of boats and jet skis that provide constant entertainment. The facilities are well-maintained, with toilets and shaded areas thoughtfully placed. However, Charles Holm Park has its limitations. The barbecues were disappointingly out of order during recent visits, and the ground can get rather boggy. High tide presents particular challenges, washing away what little beach exists and making boat launching tricky without assistance. Fair warning: the council has developed quite the keen eye for parking violations, so mind where you leave the car or risk a hefty fine. Despite these niggles, it remains a solid choice for family gatherings.
